North Norfolk Harriers Hunt Ball, 25 October 2014.

Due to several unforeseen circumstances, we have sadly made the decision to postpone this year’s Hunt Ball. We felt it best to make the decision now, before too many financial commitments have been made.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment caused, and be assured that the decision wasn’t made lightly.

The good news is we will now be holding the North Norfolk Harriers May Ball on Saturday 16 May 2015 at Northgate Hall, Warham, so please keep this date free.

We will be pulling out all the stops to make it a great party, and would love you to be there! With many thanks and best wishes from the Hunt Ball team.

BBQ at Kennels ……………………………………………………………………………………..

Yet again the weather held for a lovely evening at kennels, Chris Carman & Nigel Kirk took hounds on a short walk to the river for a cool off after a very long hot day, about 30 people followed on foot behind the hounds to experience the sceptical of hound Lawrence taking aerial dives into the river after biscuit to much amusement.

The walkers returned back to the kennels to then enjoy a lovey BBQ in the gardens of the house and after much chat, eating and drinking into the twilight another very enjoyable evening came to an end.

The NNHSC Dog Show…………………………………………………………………………………

The annual NNHSC dog show was held in glorious sunshine on Sunday, with the added attraction of Norfolk Radio turning up during the morning to complete the Sunday morning treasure hunt at kennels. The treasure was finally found in the old flesh house and afterwards Chris Carman took part in a live interview and explained all about the North Norfolk Harriers hounds and kennels.

The main ring show was supported by side attractions such as a dog gun scurry, terrier racing, dog agility course, coconut shy and bowl for the pig to keep the attendee happy while waiting for their turn in the ring.
Chris Carman and Nigel Kirk were on hand during the day to give tours around the kennels, and many commented on the lovely gardens and the well maintained kennels and hounds.
Again delicious tea and cakes donated by the supports were served in the tent supported by the BBQ.

A big thank you to our sponsors for the day GJL of Fakenham for supplying the prizes and to The Harvest Hare for donating the best in Show Prize of £ 25.00.

Stody Pleasure Ride………………………………

A new venue for 2014 was a pleasure ride around the Stody Estate by kind permission of the McNicol family, the 10 plus mile ride was enjoyed by 58 enthusiastic riders in perfect weather conditions.

Anne Green had organised the event with the help of her volunteer marshals the ride went smoothly with only a few minor hiccups at the water! And a posy of riders getting a little lost en-route but this all added to the day’s enjoyment.

At the end of the ride all received a rosette for completing the course and retired to the catering unit provided by Denise Charles and partner for a well-earned cuppa...

A big thank you to Anne for all her hard work organising the event, Mick the road in full Viz kit and to the team of marshals for the day.

Invitation to Tea………………………………………………………………………………………………………

For once we saw the sun on a Bank holiday and it was enjoyed by about 30 guests in the lovely setting of Frank & Angela Jordan’s garden at Colks Farm.

The event was organised by the NNHSC and guests were greeted with a glass of Pimms by their hosts Frank & Angela, many of those who attended were past riders with the NNH Hunt and many a tale was being told of past hunting exploits, and we must thank our oldest member on the day Mrs D Jorden at 96 years young who enjoyed seeing some old friends again.

The afternoon’s proceedings continued with a beautiful selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes accompanied by NNH Hunt bubbly!

As everyone enjoyed the food and the afternoon sunshine, the younger members played Croquet on the lawn which was overseen for any foul play by Benjamin Jordan.

At the end of the afternoon all departed having had a lovely time and our thanks go to Angela and Frank for all their hard work and hope we can do it again in the future.

Pictures of the occasion can be seen in the Photo Albums section under Invitation to tea.

Kennels Open

Approximately 40 subscribers of the NNH & NNHSC attended the open afternoon at kennels in what turned out to be a lovely sunny afternoon.

The kennels had been opened to allow subscribers to see behind the scenes what actually is involved in turning out hounds twice a week in the season and also for some to see hounds that they had sponsored through the Hound Sponsorship, and catch up on there progress.

Nigel Kirk and Chris Carman were both on hand to answer any questions people had about the hounds and the day to day running of kennels.

Over the years many projects had been carried out to maintain the kennels with the help of membership fees and volunteer labour, just a few of these had been captured in pictures by Chris, and these plus interpretation information were displayed in the garden for people to see where there support for the hunt had been used over the years.

At 3.30 all visitors gathered outside the front of kennels to unveil a memorial plaque that had been installed in memory of a true hunt supporter Joanna Mytton, with moneys raised last year in memory of Joanna it was possible to replace the old and rotten stable doors and windows. Mr Bradbury introduced Mr Richard Mytton who gave a speech and thanked all the NNH for their support and duly unveiled the plaque, all assembled then raise a glass in memory of Joanna.

Afterwards a lovely tea was available for all to enjoy in the gardens.

Our thanks go to Nigel and Chris for being on hand to explain and guide people around kennels and to Sue Kirk for all her hard work in the kitchen serving tea, sandwiches and delicious cakes.

Countryside Alliance Countryside Classroom................

At Salle Park
On Wednesday 21st May 2014

We are looking for volunteer guides for the Norfolk countryside classroom which this year is at Salle Park on Wednesday 21st May. This is a very successful event and as those who have done it before will tell you is great fun and it is very rewarding to show children the animals and countryside.

There will be “walk the course” evenings on Monday 12th May and Wednesday 14th May at 18.00hrs. Guides will find it helpful to attend one of these evenings. The Monday walk will end with a hog roast and wine by way of a thank you. The stand holders are also invited on the Monday which will be a good opportunity to meet them.

Salle Park is at NR10 4SG, north of the Cawston to Reepham road, turning off that road at the sharp bend about ¾ of a mile outside Reepham. We will meet at Manor Farm, the next entrance on the right going north after the private entrance to Salle Hall, for both the ‘course walks’ and the event itself.
On the day please could you be there by 9.15am at the latest. The days run form 9.30am until approximately 15.00pm.

Please bring a picnic lunch to take with you, and suitable footwear and clothing.

Dogs are welcome but on leads at all times. Please shut any gates that you go through and do explain to the children why gates should be kept shut.

Please can you let Amanda Brownlow know as soon as possible if you can help and which training session you can attend either by telephone: 01263 740446, or email:

If you know of anyone else who would like to help please send email on to them or if they are not on email please ask them to phone me.

Thank you very much.
Best Wishes Amanda
